Melanie Fiona has unveiled her cover of “Started from the Bottom,” the lead single from fellow Canadian Drake‘s upcoming third album, Nothing Was the Same. She didn’t issue an official remix, or even a web-only release, but posted a video in which she harmonizes with the Drizzy song on her computer.
“Toronto stand up!” said Mel in the web vid. “Long Overdue. Back on my cover game.”
Stupid Dope gave Fiona’s cover a positive review: “She makes the beat with her voice and some handclaps and then gets down to business as she effortlessly croons the track . . . The Toronto native . . . did the damn thing on this one.” Meanwhile, Lava Lizard called Fiona’s version an “upgrade.”
Melanie is currently in the studio working on a third album of her own.
