Vybz Kartel Trial: Key Defense Witness Arrested

kartel-trial-update-onstage-tv-december-2013

Vybz Kartel’s highly publicized murder trial is now taking shape in the Home Circuit court in Kingston.

So far over 20 witnesses have taken the stand to give testimony in the case that has gone on for more than two months.

Police on Wednesday afternoon arrested key defense witness and advisor, telecommunications expert Philip Martin.

Cops aligned to the Organized Crime and Investigative Division, OCID, converged on Martin’s house some time after 4 p.m. and arrested him. The reason for his arrest is not clear, but cops say they wanted to search his home.

Martin was scheduled to testify in Vybz Kartel murder trial in the coming days.

Vybz Kartel’s lead attorney, Tom Tavares-Finson, says Martin’s arrest was a desperate act by the police force to intimidate the defense.

Defense lawyers grilled key prosecution witness Detective Sergeant Patrick Linton on the stand today. Linton, who is the former head of the cybercrime unit in OCID, has been testifying since last week about text messages, BBM messages, audio and video data taken from a phone belonging to Vybz Kartel.

Kartel, born Adidja Palmer, is on trial for the alleged murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams. He is jointly charged with Shawn “Storm” Campbell, Kahira Jones, André St John, and Shane Williams.

Cops say Williams was killed over two missing firearm on August 16, 2011 at the deejay’shouse in Havendale, St. Andrew.

His body has yet to be found.

Macklemore Told Kendrick Lamar He Robbed Him Of A Grammy

Kendrick-Lamar-and-Macklemore

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis was one of the bigget winners at Sunday’s 56th Annual Grammy Awards.

But the “Thrift Shop” rap sensations are feeling remorse about taking home the awards. The rap duo won the awards for Best New Artist, Best Rap Song and Best Rap Album. But Kendrick Lamar, who was nominated in most rap categories, went home empty handed.

After the Grammy Awards, Macklemore sent a message to Kendrick Lamar apologizing to him and telling him he felt he got robbed.

This is what Macklemore said:

“You got robbed. I wanted you to win. You should have. It’s weird and sucks that I robbed you. I was gonna say that during the speech. Then the music started playing during my speech and I froze. Anyway, you know what it is. Congrats on this year and your music. Appreciate you as an artist and as a friend. Much love.”

Lots of other rappers have been weighing in on the gesture from Macklemore, most of which says the Grammy is unfair.

Justin Bieber Arrested And Charged With Assault In Toronto

Canadian pop star Justin Bieber has been formally charged with assault after a Toronto limo driver told police he was struck several times on the back of his head.

Police say the limo driver got into a confrontation with one of six passengers in his vehicle when the alleged assault occurred in the early morning hours of Dec. 30.

Bieber surrendered to police Wednesday night, causing a frenzy outside Toronto police station 52 Division on Dundas Street.

The pop star pushed through a wild, large crowd of determined media and shrieking fans.

Bieber smiled to fans as dozens of police officers helped him through the crowd and remained inside the station for more than an hour before discreetly slipping out a back door.

Minutes after confirming that the singer had left the building, police released a statement confirming that the 19-year-old had been charged with assault.

Police said a limousine arrived at a downtown nightclub at around 2:50 a.m. on Dec. 30 to pick up the group. While driving the group to a hotel, an altercation took place between one of the passengers and the driver, police said.

Police have said in the past that they were investigating whether it was the teen idol himself or someone in Bieber’s entourage that was involved in the incident.

A lawyer for the singer told The Canadian Press that Bieber would be pleading not guilty to the charge.

His team sent out a statement which said the following:

“The Toronto Police Service requested that Justin Bieber appear in Toronto today to face an allegation of assault relating to an incident on (Dec. 30, 2013.) We anticipate that this matter will be treated as a summary offense, the equivalent of a misdemeanor in the United States.

“Our position is that Mr. Bieber is innocent,” the statement continued to say. “As the matter is  now before the court, it would be inappropriate to address the specifics of either the allegation or of our defense at this time.”

Bieber, who hails from Stratford, Ont. but lives in Calabasas, Calif., has had his share of legal troubles this month.

On Jan. 23, Bieber was arrested in Miami and charged with driving under the influence, resisting arrest and driving with an expired license. He was released on US$2,500 bail and on Wednesday, filed a written plea of not guilty to all charges.

His arraignment is scheduled for Feb. 14 but he is not required to be present at the hearing. His lawyer told The Associated Press that a decision hasn’t been made on whether or not Bieber will attend.

You probably could cut the tension in the building. Rihanna did not attend the Grammys ceremony on Sunday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The Bajan pop star won a Grammy for Best Urban Contemporary Album for her album Unapologetic.

VYBZ KARTEL TRIAL: Gruesome Details Of Lizard Murder Played In Court

Vybz-Kartel-court-2014

Vybz Kartel high profile murder trial have been taking shape in the Home Circuit court over the last couple of days.

The prosecution started playing audio evidence last week Friday. According to former Cybercrime unit head, Detective Sergeant Patrick Linton, the data was extracted from several smartphones belong to Vybz Kartel and the other accused men.

Today the senior police officer presented more audio evidence in court, as well as, video, images and Blackberry Messenger messages.

If these BBM messages held up under cross-examination from the defense then the accused men are in serious trouble.

The video August 16, 2011.

Linton played a 2 minutes and 17 seconds long video dated August 16, 2011. The video shows three men, one with an axe.

“Yow hear weh mi a say.. mi want yo hold him with a knife and stab him in a him neck and slow him down…,” the court heard in the video.

Another man said “…hol him dung mek mi cut him throat…”

“Rocky u hear weh mi a say no, this can kill the man?” the man with the axe asked.

“You affi swing it hard and no mek it ketch mi,” another man respond.

Someone also told the man with the axe, “swing hard and nuh mek it ketch me.”

“Yow hear wa me a say, hold him down and cut him throat. Yo have a ratchet?” one man in the video asked.

“No mi no have no knife, yo have a gun?” another man respond.

“Weh wee deh? Cuz wee fi know weh a gwaan to,” one man said before the video ended.

Vybz Kartel’s lead attorney Tom Tavares-Finson objected to the multimedia evidence saying the phone was being used while in the police possession. However, Justice Lennox Campbell ruled to have the data admitted into evidence.

Tavares-Finson accused police officers of using the Blackberry Torch 9800 with PIN #234BAE6D while the phone was in their custody.

Vybz-Kartel-Havendale-house

Vybz Kartel, born Adidja Palmer, long with Shawn “Storm” Campbell, Kahira Jones, André St John, and Shane Williams are all on trial for the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams.

The prosecution says Lizard was beaten to death on August 16, 2011 at Kartel’s house on Swallowfield Rd, in Havendale. Cops say he was killed over two missing firearms.
