Real Big Faces Interview: Trel Mack

trelmacknew1

Introduce yourself?

My name is Trel Mack an up and coming artist from the city of Philadelphia signed to my own independent label SKE Records.

What was the first project you have ever did, and what have u learned from it now that you didn’t know back then?

My very first project was “The Mack of The Year” that was back in 2007, it was new to me to understand the business and marketing that goes behind releasing a project. Also it just crazy how I have grown as an artist and when I look back at my material, you can just see the growth.  It was the same with my 2008 release “The New Dynasty” and it funny how “Inspired By Greatness” my 2012 EP is the one that has taken my career to the next level.

What inspired you to label yourself Trel Mack?

Well people have always viewed me as a ladies man and my real name is Katrel, so there you go Trel Mack lol.

Is it true u have u have been featured on Mtv, The Source, DJ Khaled’s wethebesttv.com & allhiphop.com?

Yeah SKE Records go hard and shout to my bro, Q The Question, Q believes in my talent a lot and saw the vision, he been going hard for me and now it’s paying off. Being on The Source was a dream come true and even the other big outlets that just feel in love with the music and support the movement.

I see u have co – founded a record label as well as being an artist, tell us some of the challenges of managing those 2 things at the same time?

It’s tough because I always have to focus on my music and then join in with Q The Question and DJ YRS Jerzy on the next business moves. Business is always before music as it a crazy job to understand marketing and much more. Running a label is not easy especially when you are independent learning to brand yourself one day at a time.

If you had a chance to do a feature with a major artist who would it be and why?

I would love to work with Big Krit, Wiz Khalifa, Drake, Kendrick Lamar and also J. Cole. Those dudes I just mentioned are beast on the mics and are keeping hip-hop culture alive. J. Cole “Born Sinner” album is amazing and I love the record “Let Nas Down”. It only a matter of time before I’m in the studio with them dudes.

I see you have a new video titled “Trust No One” What inspired that single, and who is the feature actor in the video?

Well the song is about how you can’t trust anyone in life and it features me, Q The Question, Petter Jones and Shawn Archer. It was a team project for sure and we are all so amazed the great feedback the video has been receiving in 2013 it going to be crazy.

You have recently dropped a new mixtape “Inspired By Greatness” explain a bit about that?

Yeah my 2012 ep “Inspired by Greatness” was crazy and it caught fire on the net and I’m so thankful for all the fans who love it. Many fans favorite record is “Dreams of a Winner” and “No Holding Back”. Fans are waiting for a video to “Who He Think He Is” and “One & Only” which are coming soon. The beat selection I took my time and took mad time to write the songs and now the feedback is being well respected among the industry.

Where do u see yourself in the next 5 – 10 years from now?

SKE Records a major conglomerate and I would love to go down as one of the best to do it and keep this hip-hop culture alive.

What do you hate about the music industry and think should be changed?

The politics the politics will never change lol, but it’s part of the territory.

Have you ever worked with any major artist or dj’s before?

Soon I will as many big timers are taking notice of the SKE movement I can’t name any names, me and Q was talking about this the other day. The key is to keep working let them respect the craft and soon hits with other big names are on the way.

What would u advise to all the new upcoming artists trying to be successful in the hip hop game?

Study the business and read, read, read. This game is really business first music second, many artists have great talent but have no business mind of how to generate money and push their craft, the lack of knowledge hurts many artist.

What’s your definition of success?

It depends with each individual but to keep his basic, being free in the mind and being able to provide for my family.

Who do you think are some of the hottest artists out right now that inspire you and why?

I’m working with a new artist Tatianna Barbosa and she is a beast, also SKE Records has Petter Jones he on the rise too. I also like Chris Brown I believe we can make a hit and Big Sean too, cats be sleeping on Big Sean. His album “Finally Famous” his first major album was dope to me, I love his record with John Legend.

If you could change one thing about yourself as an artist what would it be?

I want to learn to make beats. I was working on it for a bit and fell back, now it’s time to get back on it. Big Krit and J. Cole inspire me as there are producing their own projects.

How can people get at you if they wanted to work with you?

Real Big Faces Interview: DJ Yrs Jerzy

IMG_3631

We caught up wid ” DJ Yrs Jerzy” and spoke with him as he talks Music industry, why hard work pays off.

Check out what he told us below.

Introduce yourself.

What’s good I’m DJ YRS Jerzy and I’m chilling with realbigfaces.com. I’m from Jersey City, NJ but I am currently living in Charlotte, NC to focus on my music career. I am also with Ske Records and I also manage two artists Chox-Mak and J Paq. I want to give a shout out to Q The Question and Trel Mack make sure you check out Trel Mack’s “No Holding Back” music video it’s doing numbers.

What was the first project u have ever did, and what have u learned from it now that you didn’t know back then?

The first project I ever did was a mixtape called “International Hustle” with the homie Frencizzle who is out in France. The mixtape was a variety of artists from France and the US. I learned a lot from that first mixtape. My craft got a lot better, I was just glad that my first project was seen and heard over seas.

What inspired u to label yourself dj yrs jerzy?

It was something that always made sense to me. I’m a DJ the “YRS” in my name stands for Young Riot Squad which is my team and Jerzy is the name that people started calling me when I moved to Charlotte, NC from New Jersey.

Is it true u have only been a dj for only 2 years to date and only 19 years old?

Yes this is true. A lot of people don’t believe that for some reason. I think it is the way that I do things a lot of people my age really don’t take time to learn the industry that I chose. I think that doing my research made me a lot more aware of the opportunities that I have in this music industry.

I see u have been a part of over 40 mixtapes, can u name a few of them and how successful they have been?

I have hosted plenty of mixtapes some of them went good and some of them didn’t it is all apart of the game. I don’t just focus on mixtapes I have artists to push and I have plenty of other things going on. I don’t want people to think that all I do is host mixtapes but that is one of the reasons why everything is going so good in my career.

What is it like being a new upcoming dj in a cut throat industry, and some of the challenges u have faced?

It is a lot of work but this is what I love to do. I have faced plenty of challenges like dealing with artists that aren’t trying to work as hard as I need them too. There are so many situations that I had to deal with that I can’t even bring up.

If u had a chance to do a mixtape for a major artist who would it be and why?

I don’t have a specific person that I would work with, but I would definitely want to work with some legends and future legends of the game. Any one that I see is on their grind is someone worth working with. You have to be hungry and on your grind when you are working with me.

I see u have a new single/video titled “Make It Last” What inspired that single, and who is the feature artist in the video?

My artist Chox-Mak has everyone going crazy over that track I feel like that track is one of the tracks that can eventually get our name out there heavy in the streets. That song was inspired by real life situations with his different life struggles.

You have been recently signed to ske records can you explain a bit about that and how you managed to gain that success for other djs trying to make it?

I linked up with Q The Question through hip-hopvibe.com he was seeing my grind and I was seeing him on the site almost every week. One day I decided to have him host my mixtape series “Jerzy’s Evolution” which is out now and the rest was history from there. About a month or two later he decided to sign me to the label and we have been making moves ever sense. For my DJs trying to make it stick with other DJs you can’t go wrong when you network with other DJs.

Where do u see yourself in the next 5 – 10 years from now?

I see myself being successful and having my artists on top of the game. I would love to have a label under SKE Records that would be dope I know that will take time I’m not even trying to think about that right now I have a lot of work to do.

What do you hate about the music industry and think should be changed?

I hate that when people see you doing good they try to bring you down. There are plenty of people I don’t work with now because of that. Another thing I don’t like is that the same people I would try to contact a year or two ago that would never answer are hitting me up now trying to work. It’s too late for that now.

Have u ever worked with any major artist or dj’s?

I have yet to work with a huge artist in the game but I feel like that is coming soon. I don’t want to use someone else’s name to get on I’d rather just show people that I am grinding using my own name to go places with my career.

What would u advise to all the new upcoming dj’s trying to be successful in the hip hop game?

Always network with other DJs especially if you’re trying to push an artist. With out the DJs I don’t think the game would be where it is now. It is very important to do that it will make things a lot easier.

What’s your definition of success?

Having all your goals completed with even more to add on to it. Success is when you feel good about what you did if you feel like you did enough for everyone that supported you you will feel good about everything.

Who do you think are some of the hottest djs out right now that inspirer you and why?

Definitely Funk Master Flex and DJ Drama the way they changed the game for all of us DJs is crazy. With out DJ Drama the mixtape game would not be on the level that it is on now. I don’t try to follow there moves, I look at there moves and see what I can do different.

If you could change one thing about yourself as a dj what would it be?

I wouldn’t change anything. I feel like I have my own lane just like everyone else did if I tried to change what I was doing, it would be like starting all over again. I would never try to change what I am doing. As a DJ I feel like doing what I am doing made me who I am today.

How can people get at u if they wanted to work with you?

You can contact me on twitter @IAMDJYRSJERZY or facebook DJ YRS Jerzy.
