Shots were fired early this morning at Lil Wayne’s tour bus in Atlanta, TMZ reports. Wayne performed at Compound last night, and shortly after his two buses pulled away from the club, one of them was shot up. It been reported that no one was injured. Police are investigating the incident.
It’s unclear whether Wayne was on the bus that took fire. Other Young Money executives and artists, such as Lil Twist and Hood, were on the buses.
With hip-hop being born in the streets, it still comes as a surprise to some people that many of today’s highest selling rap stars are college educated. From Ice Cube to J. Cole, a growing number of rappers exhibit higher knowledge in their rhymes and actually have a diploma to back it up.
Still, there are rappers who spent some time in the classroom but ended up dropping out to pursue their music dreams full time. Finding success outside of college, these artists have now been celebrated and recognize with honorary degrees at some of the nations most prestigious universities. No college debt required! Here are eight rappers and the universities that paid homage to them.
1. Pitbull, Doral College
2. Diddy, Howard University
3. Lil Wayne, University of Houston
4. Common, Florida A&M
5. LL Cool J, Northeastern
6. Chuck D, Adelphi University
7. Wyclef Jean, Western Connecticut State University
8. Dizzee Rascal, University of East London
Tensions between Diddy and Drake are still sky high after their Miami fight — and now Drake’s longtime mentor is blasting Diddy, Suge Knight, Lil Wayne and Birdman in a blistering diss track.
Rap-A-Lot Records CEO James Prince recently recorded the cold-blooded warning — which we’re told he calls a “courtesy call” — and we got our hands on it.
Sources connected to J. Prince tell us this has been simmering since Diddy punched Drake at LIV Nightclub back in December. On the track, Prince makes it clear Drizzy is “family,” and adds … “Puffy feeling like he can put his hands on my family, open the doors for his family to be touched. You reap what you sow.”
That’s just the start … he goes in on Weezy and Birdman — with whom he’s had a long-running legal war — and also rips “Sugar Bear” for a not-so-subtle jab at Drake he made to a TMZ camera guy.
You gotta hear the rant … it plays like a manifesto, but with a beat.
Grammy weekend is the hectic weekend in February every year where music’s biggest stars converge in Los Angeles for the annual awards show. While that means you can see celebrities left and right, it also means any petty ongoing beefs can come to a head at any moment. That’s exactly what happened when Birdman showed up at Nicki Minaj’s Pre-Grammy party at last night.
Stunna arrived at 1:45 AM looking to get into the club and was denied entrance before ever really getting close to the door. As you can see in the video, the bouncers call the police over for assistance and have a bit of a heated conversation with Birdman and his entourage.
TMZ says the reason he was denied is because the club was already closed and that could be true because liquor can’t be served in California after 2AM ,so most clubs do close around that time. However, at around the 1:05 mark you can hear someone saying what sounds like “Nicki said she don’t want you in.” Listen for yourself and be the judge.
If she did indeed make the remark, it definitely gives more weight to the rumor that Lil Wayne is looking to take Nicki (and Drake) with him if/when he leaves Cash Money and also gives a hint to which side Nicki’s taken in the whole ordeal.
Former Hot Boy Turk looks to sue Cash Money for unpaid royalties.
As a former member of Hot Boys, Turk’s fortunes didn’t exactly pan out like Lil Wayne’s after the group fell apart. It looks like him and Weezy still have a few things in common though, because they’re both looking to sue Cash Money. With Wayne currently asking Birdman’s label for some $51 million in damages related to a delayed Carter V release date, Turk’s suit pales in comparison, but is still pretty substantial.
TMZ reports that he’s asking for $1.3 million in unpaid royalties. According to the gossip site, Turk is claiming that Birdman and Co. did some “shady accounting” and didn’t disclose his full earnings. Lil Wayne, he’s also asking that his Cash Money contract be voided.
